Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard: The Order of Things

22 August – 27 September 2014

”Man and the World unfold into each other. You depart your own self. You take part in the folds of the Other.

In the exhibition, The Order of Things, I work through the method to dissolve and assemble. The meditative process unfolds as a form of existential research of embodied cognition. I work within a registry of experience where I am engaged in a physical language of the psychic.

The work of art may occur outside myself. I do not always know the outcome of my experiments. The material bares its own conditions. The dull material is a body that can be built upon. Everything has a potential and is not distinctly narrative, rather cryptograms able to be dissolved and enter into new constellations.”

Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard, June 2014

In The Order of Things Johanne Skovbo Lasgaards leads us into her exhibition of physical gestalts in space that invite us to perceive. Her sculptural objects and installations are often based around a basic theme: light – heavy. Where the materials speak for themselves: tactility – sensibility – the liquid. With Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard the narrative lies within the many different materials she works with, resulting in an experimental work of nature of for example plaster, wax, iron and pigment on oil saturated paper. Through the physical experience Skovbo Lasgaard maintains a constancy in her practice arising from a focus on the procedural and substantive examination. Thus the surfaces often seem fragile and porous as if they are in a constant poetic and bodily process.

Johanne Skovbo Lasgaard is a newly graduate from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. It is with great pleasure that Marie Kirkegaard welcome you to her first solo exhibition in the gallery.
