Daniel Milan: Cop Cop Canoe

9 January – 14 February 2015

Daniel Milan’s Cop Cop Canoe unfolds in an animated video work, featuring Milan’s characteristic ”Cactus Man” paddling to nowhere in his canoe. Furthermore the exhibition presents a new series of drawings, a painting installation, graphics and a new artist’s book.

As always Daniel Milan extends the line to the utmost and transform his significant graphic language to other media, communicating crisscrossing between each other. Interpersonal coupled relationships, power structures and nihilistic modes dominate, while the Cactus Man in this exhibition has also received unexpected company by turtles and a large-scale pineapple.

Daniel Milan’s drawings are set in black both very giddy and neat graphic lines, whereby his motives are easily tucked away behind a tangle of wonderful patterns. The works operate between an eternal formation and dissolution, which seems to be a recurring theme in Daniel Milan’s work.

To accompany the exhibition Milan has also published the book, Cop Cop Canoe on his own publishing house, Milan Verlag in 50 ex. The featured works has been partly executed and printed during a recent stay at Steinprent in Torshavn.

Daniel Milan (b. 1978 in Denmark) graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, and has studied at Akademie der Bildenden Künsten i München 2004-2005.

In 2013 Daniel Milan made his debut as an author with the release of The Crows at Isar, and he is also the winegrower behind the first Danish produced organic white wine.
